Humberside airport is located half way between Grimsby and Scunthorpe, north east England. The airport was originally set up as RAF Kirmington in 1941, but the council later bought the airport and work soon began to turn the land into a passneger airport. Humberside airport is currently owned by Manchester airport PLC. In 2003 the airport saw 518,000 passengers pass through its gates and handled 13,000 aircraft movements.

Getting there by Car / Taxi

Humberside airport is easily accessible from the M180. Simply exit at junction 5 onto the A18 and follow the signs to Humberside airport.

There is a taxi desk inside the terminal building, or alternatively, taxis can be booked in advance.

Getting there by Bus / Coach

Getting there by Train

Doncaster station is served by most major UK train stations. A train can be caught from Doncaster station, which will take you to Barnetby station, just 3 miles from the airport itself. Details of times can be obtained by contacting National Rail.

• The airport is equipped with disabled ramps, special phones and disabled toilets.
  
• Wheelchairs and an ambulift for assistance with boarding the aircraft are available on request.
  
• Pick up/drop off points for disabled badge holders are located in front of the terminal.
  

Children

• An unsupervised Airtours children's play area can be found in the terminal building.
  
• There are baby changing facilities in the main terminal concourse, the international departure lounge and the arrivals hall. All are fitted with nappy dispensers.

Parking

There are both short stay and long stay airport parking faciliies at Humberside airport. There is also a drop-off area located directly in front of the terminal building.

Short Stay

The short stay car park is located close to the terminal building and is free for stays up to half an hour. It is also a good option for passngers wishing to leave there cars for just a few days at a time.

Long Stay

The long stay car park is suitable for those who wish to leave their car for longer than a week.

• Humberside airport started life in 1941 as RAF Kirmington.
  
• RAF 166 squadron operated here until 1945, when the airport was abandoned and used as farmland.
  
• Between 1960 and 1968 the airport was put back into use with small airline operating flights from the base.
  
• The council bought the land in 1969 and work began to turn the land into a passenger airport.
  
• Still known as Kirmington airport, the passenger terminal building was opened to the public in 1974.
  
• Shortly after this, the county of Humberside was formed and the airport got its new name: Humberside airport.
  
• The next year, Humberside airport operated its first scheduled flight - to Amsterdam.
  
• By 1983, passenger numbers had grown substantially, and a new restaurant was opened.
  
• The airport became a private limited company in 1987.
  
• In 1992 extensive redevelopments, including a runway extension, were opened.
  
• Further redevelopments such as improved check-in and lounge facilities took place in 1996.
  
• Manchester airport PLC took control of the airport's shares in 1999.
